Tel Aviv Marathon

No, we did not run the marathon but we did run the 5K.  We just like being involved with marathons even though it has been 7-8 years since our last marathons in New York & Athens.  In Israel you have to fill out a long health form when you register and then sign it at number pick up.  The marathon, ½ marathon, 10K and 5K were three weeks ago but we do want to document our experience.  We had to walk three miles to the starting line, run 3.1 miles and then walk the three miles home so we really did a 15K.  Unfortunately the 5K did not have a timing chip so it was really just a fun run.  Sandy had her heart set on winning her age group so it was quite disappointing.  The course was somewhat narrow and it was impossible to get into a running pace due to all of the walkers 3-6 abreast, wheel chairs, people stopping to take pictures and even some people using crutches & walkers.  We both had a good run, experienced the running community in Israel and accumulated some more bling.  We were surprised by most runners wearing the marathon shirt as we are used to the unwritten rule of not wearing the shirt unless you have finished the run.

More bling.

We have now finished our eight rowing lessons and have been certified to take out a scull on our own although that sounds a little scary to us as there is so much involved in adjusting the oars & seat, getting in and out safely and navigating the narrow curving river without hitting another boat or the riverbank.

We have also been to the beach once for a picnic, reading and dipping our toes in the relatively warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea.IMG_0369
