Road Trip Day #10 Lastingham

We had booked only one night here as that was all that was available on line but they told us that our room was open for the next night if we wanted to stay another day. ย Our first decision of the day was whether to stay or move on. ย We decided it would be too rushed to do the run/walk we wanted to do if we checked out today. ย It is so relaxing here that it suits our needs for a down day.

The beginning of our walk on the moors. ย The ground is to uneven for elderly runners to negotiate safely.

The heather is in full bloom in July and August when the hillsides are completely purple.

We mapped out a seven mile walk/run through the moors which immediately became a walk only when we experienced the uneven terrain. ย After two miles of walking and not seeing anything but undulating moorland and a lot of sheep we came to a junction in the road and not sure about the path to take and looking at some threatening clouds and gusty misty winds we decided to do an about face and head back to the inn for hot coffee and breakfast.

The walk home was windy, misty, cold, uncomfortable and long.
