San Diego with Tom and Donna

Tom and Donna Quirk have been visiting us on our travels ever since our very first venture to Paris in 2017. They are such easy and fun houseguests as they are completely self sufficient and they research and plan new adventures for us to enjoy together. Donna is very active and will go out running or walking with us. Tom has had joint issues over the past seven years but he still gets out and participates as much as possible. The thing that Jim loves about Tom is that he has preserved his inner child and his enjoyment of all our activities is so blatantly obvious and fun.

Donna has visited us with her husband Tom in Paris and San Francisco. She has visited us with her brother Mark in Mexico City and Madrid. She has also visited us by herself in London and New Orleans. Tom and Donna were going to be with us from Wednesday to Monday but had to postpone until Friday due to the death of a close friend. They arrived Friday evening and we had a very full two days with them.

Our friends Tom and Donna Quirk came to visit us for a long weekend. They arrived Friday evening.
Saturday morning Sandy took Donna on a short run to show her the sights along the Embarcadero.
Donna knows the artist that did this statue, John Seward Johnson ll who had a home in Nantucket.
Bob Hope USO Memorial.
After the run we took an Uber to the Hotel Coronado. No walking as Tom’s hip was quite painful.
Our first time in this lobby without the Christmas Tree.
The chandelier is also new for us as the Christmas tree had displaced it.
We enjoyed a lunch overlooking Coronado Beach.
Sunday morning we drove to LaJolla.
The sea lions and seals were very active.
And the King Tide gave us quite the show that day. King Tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and sun. They happen only once or twice a year in coastal areas. This year they occurred mid January in San Diego.
Sunday afternoon we took in the Rodeo at Petco Stadium which is the ballpark of the San Diego Padres.
This was the first ever San Diego Rodeo.
Bucking bronco, bareback event.
This father and son duo were very good with their ropes
We ended the day with a lovely rooftop dinner at Mr A’s Restaurant.
While dining we enjoyed watching the planes land at San Diego Airport.
Although it was a short (72 hour) visit we managed to pack in many enjoyable things to do. Thanks again for coming, as always a fun time with you.
